This web site tells all about my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail starting on February 14, 1999 and ending on August 10, 1999.
My trail name is Snickers (that's me in the middle). My hiking friends are (left to right) Matt, a.k.a. Jeckyll, Nathan, a.k.a. 4Runner, (me), David Romine (hiking 3/7 - 3/10), and Andrew, a.k.a. Nets. (Click on the image to see it larger.)
Mrs. Sharon Cron's fifth grade class in Nashville, TN followed the details of our hike from the beginning to the end. They studied units in geography, math, history and science centered around our hiking experiences. We called them several times from stops along the trail and talked with the entire class on speakerphone. They sent letters of encouragement to us on the trail. Below is a picture of the class.
